Man Utd loanee Ighalo offered £400,000 p/w contract extension at Shanghai Shenhua

Odion Ighalo has been offered a two-year contract extension worth more than £400,000 per week by his parent club Shanghai Shenhua.

According to Sky Sports, the Chinese club want to reward the Nigerian striker with a new two-year extension to his current contract, but surely he will be thinking about staying at Manchester United?

Ighalo joined United in January on a six-month loan deal. There wasn’t a lot of excitement around his arrival, but that has not stopped him scoring goals and being an all round brilliant influence to have in the dressing room.

I’d reserve judgement on whether I think he would be a good signing long-term. Perhaps we would have a better idea if the football season wasn’t suspended amid the spread of COVID-19. Maybe he will agree to sign this new deal with Shenhua and we’ll never know?

Shenhua are making it clear they want to keep Ighalo by giving him a huge salary.

He’s 30 and not ready for retirement. If United are willing to offer him a deal, of course Ighalo will turn down what Shenhua have offered.

The Nigerian striker faces a dilemma. Does he fight to stay at Old Trafford or take up Shanghai Shenhua’s latest offer?
