Manchester United produced their most complete performance of the season against Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, so it is bizarre that only one player made it into WhoScored’s Premier League team of the week.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the only United player to feature, in a team which is dominated by Chelsea’s side that hammered Everton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.

United put in a monumental defensive performance against the champions, as they kept their eighth clean sheet in their last 10 outings.

There’s been a serious improvement in United’s defensive stability under Solskjaer in the last couple of months and new signings Harry Maguire and Wan-Bissaka deserve huge credit for their roles.

Wan-Bissaka was again responsible in keeping Raheem Sterling quiet at Old Trafford – we cannot remember an occasion Sterling has actually gone past the right-back in four meetings this season.

There is almost always a panic amongst fans when a defender goes to ground to make a challenge, but it seems inconceivable that Wan-Bissaka will not win the ball.

He has been fantastic since signing from Crystal Palace in the summer and Sunday’s performance was arguably the best of the lot.

The 22-year-old has added some attacking threat to his defensive solidity and is continuing to improve all the time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But we feel Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Fred were unlucky not to join Wan-Bissaka in this team of the week after the 2-0 victory.
