Opinion: How Man Utd should reinvest £100m from potential Paul Pogba sale

Paul Pogba’s Manchester United career is coming to end.

The Frenchman stated last summer that he was ready to leave to seek a new challenge. A season that has turned into something of a non-event due to injuries and United sitting in ninth place in the league will have done little to change his mind.

As reported by the Daily Star, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be willing to cash in on the midfielder this summer, and the club would demand £100m for his services.

If Pogba is indeed sold this summer, then the money will surely be reinvested in improving a sub-standard squad.

We identified two players that United could sign for around £100m that could transform the way United play.

Jack Grealish -£45m

The ‘Grealish v Maddison’ debate rumbles on but one thing that is certain is that either player would improve United’s starting eleven greatly. Leicester City’s Maddison appears the more accomplished player out of the pair, but Grealish seems the more attainable option.

The 24-year-old has spearheaded his boyhood club’s charge for survival this season, but surely has bigger ambitions.

He has scored five goals and assisted seven times in the Premier League, and is pushing for a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the European Championships this summer.

What would make Grealish such a useful addition for Solskjaer is his versatility. He can operate in any position behind the striker and has thrived in an inside left role as Aston Villa captain. But he can also play in the number 10 position which would allow new signing Bruno Fernandes to dictate play slightly deeper.

Grealish’s energy and quality on the ball would make United more dangerous in attacking transition next season.

Moussa Dembele – £60m

United fans are largely agreed upon the fact that Anthony Martial cannot be the first-choice striker to take the club forward. The Frenchman does still have a future at the club, but is lacking what Solskjaer needs in a frontman. Erling Haaland’s eight goal Bundesliga blitz in his first five appearances for Borussia Dortmund hasn’t eased the pain on missing out on his services, either.

But one forward who is attracting attention across Europe is Lyon’s Moussa Dembele.

The former Celtic star has scored 13 goals in Ligue 1 this season, and netted 15 times in the previous campaign.

According to the Daily Star, United have been ‘given the green light’ to sign £60m-rated Dembele this season.

A natural finisher who is great in the air; United could do far worse than the Frenchman in their striker search this summer.
