Man Utd’s predicted XI to face Man City in the Carabao Cup semi-final

Having blown away Tranmere Rovers 6-0 in the fourth-round of the FA Cup, Manchester United’s attentions now turn towards a massive task. Wednesday night sees them travel to the Etihad, looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have already beaten City at the Etihad this season so we shouldn’t write off our chances completely, but the whole mood surrounding the club right now is toxic and it’s difficult to build up any belief at the moment.

The players didn’t let that stop them on Sunday but they were playing a team from League One. This is against the Premier League champions who ripped us apart in the first leg.

Below is a summary of our predicted Man Utd line-up to face City.

David de Gea played the first leg and we can’t see Solskjaer changing his goalkeeper for this one.

In defence, the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams should return in their full-back roles. Harry Maguire will captain the side at centre-back alongside Victor Lindelof.

Fred and Memanja Matic will act as a pivot in deep-lying midfield roles. While Jesse Lingard earned his man of the match award against Tranmere, we wouldn’t be surprised if Juan Mata started and pulled the strings for Solskjaer’s attacking players.

We have a feeling Daniel James will start on the left, with Mason Greenwood on the right and Anthony Martial in the centre.

It’s a huge task for the lads but they’ve shown in the past that they can surprise other teams in the top six, despite being unable to put away the lower teams in the Premier League.

Man Utd predicted XI in full: David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Brandon Williams; Fred, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata; Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Daniel James.
