Man Utd target Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani in desperate striker search

Manchester United have reportedly identified Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani as potential short-term loan targets.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to sign a striker in the final week of the transfer window and these options exemplify the level of desperation the club has reached in bringing one in.

A club run properly would have foreseen the requirement for a goalscoring forward when Romelu Lukaku indicated he wanted to leave the club this summer.

But the board’s incompetence was highlighted once again when no signing was made and Solskjaer has been left completely bereft of attacking options.

Marcus Rashford’s long-term injury means Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial are the only realistic options for the manager to select up front.

According to Sky Sports, Ighalo and Slimani are seen as realistic targets for the club to bring in this month.

Slimani is currently on loan from Leicester at Monaco, and has scored seven goals in 11 Ligue one appearances this season.

Ighalo, meanwhile, left Watford in 2017 for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

Questions have to be asked whether either player is good enough or if they fit into Solskjaer’s style of play.
