Though they were well beaten by their arch rivals Liverpool, Manchester United actually performed admirably throughout the game.
The Red Devils went a goal behind early on, and have enough chances to level things up, especially when Anthony Martial sent his golden opportunity over the bar.
Gary Neville punched a desk after Martial’s miss and Roy Keane shared the view the France international isn’t good enough to lead the line for Man Utd.

However, despite the result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to highlight how encouraged he was after watching his side’s performance.
“The players gave us everything,” Solskjaer said (via BBC Sport). “Today we hung on a bit at the start of second half, but the last 25-30 mins we pressed them and pushed them back. I’m disappointed with conceding from a corner and with the last kick – but very many positives.”
The United boss was then drawn on the club’s plans for the remainder of the January transfer window, after news broke that Marcus Rashford would be out for up to 3 months with a double stress fracture to his back.
Solskjaer suggested that United will only seek ‘short-term deals’ which is remarkable when you can see the squad still isn’t good enough with everyone fit!
“We’ve had many injuries for big players this season,” he added. “It’s just an unfortunate situation we’re in. We might look at some short term deals as well that could take us through to the summer. We don’t desperately need a striker, if the right one is there and it fits for us… we’ve got players who are chomping at the bit.”
One short-term option we think United should look at is Edinson Cavani, after the PSG striker handed in a transfer request on Sunday.
The Uruguayan is a proven goalscorer in Italy as well as France. United won’t find a better striker in January.
