‘It’s a joke’ – Ten Hag slams reports hinting at squad overhaul

Manchester United are set for a squad overhaul if you believe what the mainstream media have to say about the club’s plans for the summer transfer window.

A recent report from the reliable James Ducker, as per The Telegraph, claims United will listen to offers for most of their senior squad. The only players believed to have a definite place in the team are Rasmus Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

The report even suggested that Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford could be sold once the season ends. While both players have underperformed in a disappointing season for the team, Fernandes’ commitment should not be underestimated. Sadly, most fans can’t say the same for Rashford this term.

A separate report – published this morning – from the Manchester Evening News claims United will change their transfer strategy according to the profitably and sustainability rules. This means the club may consider selling players they intend to keep next season.

Ten Hag was forced to break his silence on these reports at his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday night’s trip to Crystal Palace.

The manager said (via Manchester Evening News): “It’s a joke. As long as I’ve worked, every summer, every window, 200 players getting interest from Manchester United, we did some research and also every summer we sell all of the players in our squad, which you make all of the headlines and that takes responsibility how you make such a headline.

“Find a good source if there is some truth in it…”
