Report: Bruno Fernandes could be in stands at Anfield for Liverpool clash

The attention has unsurprisingly returned to Bruno Fernandes’ future after Manchester United’s victory over Wolves in the FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday evening.

It was a hard fought win for the Reds, who will face Tranmere or Watford in the next round. Their opponents will be decided next Thursday in the rescheduled fixture.

While there were some impressive performances at Old Trafford, we still saw slow transition from midfield to attack and the importance of signing a player of Fernandes’ calibre was highlighted once again.

And according to the latest reports in Portugal, a transfer to United is drawing ever closer for the Sporting Lisbon captain.

Portuguese outlet Record, as sourced by the Daily Mail, claim Fernandes will play his last game for Sporting against Benfica on Friday where he will bid the club a farewell.

It is claimed he will then travel to England in time for United’s clash against Liverpool on Sunday and could be in attendance at Anfield.

United fans certainly won’t be getting too carried away with these reports. Countless reports in Portugal this summer claimed Fernandes to United was imminent but nothing came to fruition.

However, we still hope the Reds can finally get this transfer over the line as a player of Fernandes’ quality would improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield immensely.
