Manchester United reject two bids for Matic

Will Nemanja Matic remain at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window? That’s the big question right now.

The Red Devils have rejected two bids for the midfielder.

It’s not been a great season for Man Utd and Matic has seen his time on the pitch cut significantly — playing just 11 games across all competitions — with Scott McTominay claiming his place in midfield. The Serb has also had to deal with injuries which kept him out of action for a sustained period.

Now with injuries to McTominay as well as Paul Pogba, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot afford to lose any of his midfielders in January, even though most will agree Matic is past it.

Matic is the only proper defensive midfielder in the first-team at United. He should have started last week’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Man City as the Reds struggled without a steady head in the middle.

However, it sounds like United are fending off interest for Matic in the transfer market.

According to Duncan Castles in the Daily Record, United have rejected two bids for Matic.

Those two bids supposed come from Serie A giants Inter Milan and La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

The journalist claims: ‘Manchester United have rejected offers from Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan for their unsettled Serbia international Nemanja Matic as the English Premier League club looks to reshape an underperforming midfield in the current transfer window.’

Matic previous played under Antonio Conte at Chelsea and the pair won the Premier League title together.

Atletico are said to have proposed a swap deal which would see Hector Herrera move to Old Trafford — which was also rejected.
