Report: Man Utd to offer £45m plus Lingard to persuade Leicester City to sell Maddison

Leicester City star James Maddison has emerged as Manchester United’s top target in the January transfer window, according to an exclusive report by Steve Bates of the Daily Mirror.

Bates claims that Man Utd will offer £45million plus Jesse Lingard for Maddison in order to sign him this month.

Leicester are renowned for being tough negotiators and won’t fancy the prospect of losing a key player midway through the season, when they’re on course to finishing runners-up to Liverpool in the Premier League.

United know all about dealing with the Foxes after making Harry Maguire most expensive defender in the world last summer, signing on a deal worth £80million, as per BBC Sport.

We are sure Maguire will grow into his role in United’s defence but it might take time to find him the right parter unless Victor Lindelof improves his game.

Moreover, a lot of United fans would be happy if signing Maddison saw Lingard go the opposite way.

Lingard has offered too little over a long period. He doesn’t warrant his place in a United team anymore.

We would love to be proven wrong on that.
