Nemanja Matic set for Manchester United stay, despite interest from around Europe

There’s been a lot written about Nemanja Matic over the past year.

At times he has been outspoken about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, other times there has been clubs showing an interest in his signature.

Only recently Sky Sports reported on interest from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid, who seemingly joined Inter Milan in the race to sign Matic, but it sound like he’ll be staying put until the end of the season at least.

Matic hasn’t been a regular in the team this season because of injuries and losing his spot to Scott McTominay.

However, McTominay could miss two months with injury and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has to deal with Paul Pogba being out for longer.

That puts the manager in a situation that he can’t get rid of a midfielder in January. Otherwise, I don’t think he would have a problem getting rid of Matic.

BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone attends Solskjaer’s press conference and it looks like the Norwegian used the embargoed section of Friday’s briefing to rule out the departure of one of his more experienced midfielders. See tweet below:

Even with McTominay and Pogba fit, United should be in the transfer market looking to sign a midfielder or two. That need is enhanced now but knowing MUFC, the Glazers and Ed Woodward will probably expect Solskjaer to settle for what he has for the remainder of the season.
