Manchester United are looking to boost their midfield options by signing 24-year-old defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United, as per the Daily Mail.
Phillips, who has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Aston Villa, has been valued at £40m.
Man Utd’s need for midfield reinforcements is no secret having seen both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera depart for pastures new this year. Meanwhile, it doesn’t look like Nemanja Matic will be at the club for much longer.
That should make signing a midfielder or two in January a priority. Solskjaer needs an injection of creativity in the middle as well as a strong defensive-minded player.
We’ve seen reports link us with high-profile names such as James Maddison, Saul Niguez, Jack Grealish and Christian Eriksen, but the Leeds man may be a more practical option right now.
This could see Ed Woodward cash in on Matic in January but with Scott McTominay’s recent injury he can’t afford to leave Solskjaer short for numbers in midfield.
He hasn’t got many options as it is…
