Gossip Column: Man Utd eye £125m pair & more doubt over Nemanja Matic’s future

Steven Bergwijn to United on one condition

Manchester United were linked with the Dutch winger when José Mourinho was in charge but this vague report from the Daily Mirror doesn’t give any real indication that Bergwijn is set to move to Old Trafford anytime soon. Well, that’s partly to do with an alleged insider claiming the Red Devils have a chance to sign the PSV Eindhoven forward — but only if we qualify for the Champions League.

Of course, Bergwijn would leave PSV for a bigger club in the Champions League so it just makes sense to link him to United given previous apparent interest.

The Mirror also claim that the 22-year-old would cost at least £40 million.

Erling Braut Haaland has a price

Every time Haaland scores a goal for Red Bull Salzburg, we hear about how United are tracking the Norwegian striker. Next summer he is set to be Europe’s most wanted striker after taking the Champions League by storm this season and most of the United links we are seeing stem from the fact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed him at Molde.

Word out of Barcelona is that Salzburg want £85 million for Haaland who has scored 26 goals in 18 appearances this season. ESPN claim that Barca have been put off by that price tag which could be a boost for United.

Nemanja Matic on his way out of Old Trafford

In less surprising news, it looks like Matic’s time at United is coming to an end. After losing his place in the team to Scott McTominay it is thought the Serb is ready to leave the club. The Daily Telegraph claim Matic could leave as early as January. The report adds that AC Milan and Inter Milan are interested in the midfielder.

We won’t be losing sleep over that one.

Special treatment for Fred

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to get the most out of what he has, like every manager should. Reports from the Express claim coaches Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna are working hard to make Fred a hit at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian has been much better in recent weeks and Solskjaer has a decision to make when Paul Pogba returns from injury. My thinking would be to keep Fred playing alongside McTominay with Pogba operating in the no.10 role.
