Scott McTominay has been awarded Manchester United’s player of the month award for September.
It’s been another poor month for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, but it’s hard to argue the fact that the Scottish midfielder has been the standout player for the Reds.
McTominay beat young forwards Mason Greenwood and Daniel James to win the award, after James won player of the month for January.
NEXT:What Gareth Southgate said about Jesse Lingard’s omission from England squad
The highlight of the 22-year-old’s month was the powerful strike that gave United the lead against Arsenal. It was such a shame that the Reds yet again failed to capitalise on thee narrow lead and taker all three points, but McTominay was the driving force in midfield and looked the player most likely to cause Arsenal problems, despite operating in a holding role.
Daniel James has had another encouraging month in a United shirt, but his nomination for the September award after not scoring shows just how poor it’s been under Solskjaer.
United have scored just 7 goals in their last 8 games; the lack of creativity in Solskjaer’s side is glaringly obvious and has to be addressed in January
McTominay may be rested for tonight’s clash away to AZ Alkmaar, with the Reds facing Newcastle at St James Park on Sunday.

Mctominay wins the POTM for September with pretty lackluster stats. He deserves it if you ask me but it just shows how fucking awful everyone else has been.

I like McTominay. He's OK and his attitude is what every player on United should be displaying. But he's won player of the month now in April, May, and September. United have TWO wins in those months (McTominay didn't even play in on of them). #MUFC

I don’t think he gets the praise he deserves, no doubt he’s far from the quality we need right now but United needed him to step up this year and he definitely has improved a lot and he drives the team forward a lot in offence also, but that’s just my opinion 🤷🏼♂️

I said it two years ago that Scott McTominay is a very intelligent and industrious footballer who will put these lazy cry babies that think they are the 2nd coming of Pele, Zidane and Cr7 to shame.
He's no next anyone & has little media hype so even better for him.— Manchester_UTD 😈 (@YimaUnited) October 3, 2019
Incredibly pleased for McTominay, genuinely remarkable that he's one of the few players who has stepped up for #mufc this season https://t.co/hecYUfziEi
