Man Utd tipped to make January move for Toby Alderweireld

Harry Maguire joined Manchester United in the summer and his influence on the team’s defence may take time as an understanding with current defensive partner Victor Lindelof needs to be built.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are still making mistakes at the back and the Norwegian must find a way for his side to iron those mistakes out of their performances.

On Monday, United took the lead through Scott McTominay but Arsenal’s equaliser came through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following a misplaced pass by left-back on the night Axel Tuanzebe.

There has been tons of centre-backs linked with United over the years, especially since former manager José Mourinho made it publicly known that he needed defensive reinforcements.

Tottenham and Belgium centre-back Toby Alderweireld has been in the gossip columns for the best part of two years. His contract expires at the end of the season and he could be sold for a cut-price fee in the January winter transfer window.

Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) in Italy are speculating over Alderweireld switching to United in January, which would suggest Solskjaer isn’t satisfied with what he’s seeing from his defenders this season. The Italian publication’s claims are also being cited by Sky Sports.

United must prioritise an attack and a midfielder when recruiting next, but if they can sign Alderweireld too I would be very pleased.

It’s also worth noting that Lindelof only recently put pen to paper to sign a new deal at United, so this could be complete and utter rubbish.

The Belgian is 30-years-old and Solskjaer has repeatedly banged on about how he has both a short-term and long-term philosophy behind his job at Old Trafford.
