Man Utd announce Player of Month nominees after disappointing September

Manchester United have announced their player of the month nominees for the month of September.

It was another disappointing month for Solskjaer’s men, ending with the 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal on Monday night.

The highlight of the month for the Reds was the hard fought victory over Leicester at Old Trafford. There was an unconvincing Europa League victory over Astana, and the Reds scraped through into the next round of the Carabao Cup by beating League One Rochdale on penalties.

An embarrassing 2-0 away defeat to West Ham was the low point, and United end September 10th in the Premier League table, already 12 points off title chasers Liverpool after just seven games have been played.

Here are the nominees from United’s month:

Mason Greenwood

The youngster’s performances this month prove why he has to be playing more for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. He scored two cosecutive goals at Old Trafford, digging the Reds out of holes against Astana and Rochdale.

Scott McTominay

The standout player for the Reds in the Premier League despite not playing a part in the games against Rochdale and Astana. McTominay was one of the  only players that could keep their head up high after the West Ham humiliation, and scored the vital goal to give the Reds the lead in a dominant midfield performance against Arsenal on Monday.

Daniel James

The Welshman looked dangerous in his appearances this month, but did not replicate his goalscoring heroics. He has made some encouraging performances, but his selection as a forward without a goal shows how United are struggling creatively at the moment.
