Solskjaer provides fresh injury update on two key Man Utd stars

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the conditions of Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw after the pair sustained injuries in last weekend’s defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer has revealed the pair will both be out of tomorrow’s fixture away to Southampton.

“They’re doing okay but they won’t be involved in this game,” Solskjaer told MUTV as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“After the international break, hopefully Anthony will be ready for the Leicester game and Luke maybe another week or two after that.”

Shaw and Martial being out is a big blow for this weekend’s game given the lack of squad depth available to Solskjaer.

Club captain Ashley Young is likely to start at left-back, and Marcos Rojo may provide cover in the position until the 24-year-old returns with Solskjaer confirming the Argentine would be staying at Old Trafford this summer.

Martial meanwhile, has enjoyed a great start to the season in his favoured centre forward position. It’s encouraging to hear the Frenchman’s injury is not as bad a first feared, but Solskjaer will have to rejig his side around for the trip to St Mary’s.

Mason Greenwood should be given the chance to start for the Reds in place of Martial, after he was selected in Aidy Boothroyd’s u21 squad for the European Championship qualifiers next month.
