Many Manchester United fans want to see Angel Gomes start ahead of Jesse Lingard in Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
There are growing frustrations around Lingard’s quality in the final third; the 26-year-old fluffed a good chance to give the Reds a two-goal lead away to Wolves on Monday.
Lingard’s efforts off the ball are a large reason he gets selected, working tirelessly to close down players in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pressing defensive system.
But United need to score more goals and Angel Gomes could be the man to play in behind Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in attack.
Gomes has not yet been given a regular run of games in the first-team, but impressed during the club’s pre-season tour this summer.
The academy graduate hasn’t been selected in a matchday squad by Solskjaer this season, so we do not expect an imminent starting spot for the 18-year-old.
Juan Mata may be next in line to be given a start in the attacking midfield role after coming off the bench at Molineux, but Gomes is in the United manager’s plans this season and we hope to see him given more opportunities as the season progresses and the Reds enter more competitions.

Would honestly take gomes ahead of lingard in the starting team, at least if he performs like lingard, he'll have the excuse that he IS actually a young player

Would love to see Gomes as a no. 10 and Greenwood on the RW against CP. Enough of Lingard 😡 Being a bit harsh to James but it is how it is. His impact off the bench can be immense.

I hope with the home game against a stuttering Crystal Palace, Gomes gets the nod over Lingard and Pereira to play that 10. Pereira blows hot and cold during a game, and Lingard with all his running and pressing isn’t cutting it. Ole might play Mata instead but Gomes should start

Same squad as vs wolves but gomes for lingard and Mason for James

Gomes, especially must be ready to phase out Lingard. Ole will gradually phase-out players, he has started very well and it is clear the players who won't be at the club when he starts being that successful he said he would. But you must be ready to keep those out, as a player.
