Report: Man Utd set to hold contract talks with £120,000 per-week defender

Manchester United are reportedly set to begin talks of a contract extension for Ivorian defender Eric Bailly.

Bailly has been plagued by injuries since his arrival from Villarreal three summers ago, and is out until January after picking up a medial knee ligament injury in United’s pre-season victory over Tottenham.

But according to the Sun, the Reds are still set to offer the central defender a new deal to avoid letting him go for free next summer.

The report states the 25-year-old currently earns £120,000 per-week at Old Trafford in his current deal, which manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the option to extend a further two years.

Bailly had made an encouraging start to life at United, but his Old Trafford career has so far been derailed by injuries.

It’s concerning that he continues to pick up lengthy injury blows, but we still hope to see the best of Bailly when he returns from his latest setback.

For now, Solskjaer will be very pleased to have Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire at the back. The pair will look to build on their promising partnership when the Reds take on Wolves at Molineux on Monday night.
