Diogo Dalot reacts to Portugal U20s defeat against Argentina in World Cup opener

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is currently taking part in the U20 World Cup, but suffered a blow early on as Portugal were 2-0 losers in their opening fixture against Argentina.

It’s clearly not the greatest of starts for Portugal, but there is plenty of time to turn things around.

Formerly of FC Porto, Dalot played a decent amount of football last season and should be able to take advantage of the experience earned.

Portugal will be looking to win their remaining games in order to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

Dalot urged his teammates to keep fighting by tweeting the following: “Unlucky to not get the win yesterday but a very goo team performance overall. We’ll keep fighting!”

On the back of his first season in a United shirt, we’ve seen glimpses of what Dalot is capable of though I have not seen enough to suggest he is ready to be a starter next season

That’s why United really need to go out and sign a new right-back this summer.

Antonio Valencia leaves the club once his contract expires and most fans have had enough of seeing Ashley Young start games most weeks.

Changes are needed but I’d like to see Dalot kick on and develop further next season. He may even get more runs on the right wing, as he did towards the end of last season.
