Rio Ferdinand recommends Championship defender to Man Utd chiefs

While the rumour mill picks up on reports linking Rio Ferdinand with some hierarchy job at Manchester United, The Mirror suggest that he wants to see Norwich centre-back Ben Godfrey join the club.

Rio in with a bang – perhaps trying to make his mark early on, but Ferdinand has ties to Godfrey from a business point of view. The report above states he mentors the defender in his New Era agency.

It’s certain to be a busy summer for United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lots of work to get his side playing the way it wants, so he needs to work on clearing out some deadwood too.

Aged 21, Godfrey is said to have been one of the stand-out players this season for Norwich, who have won promotion back to the Premier League.

That means, either way, he will be playing in the top flight next season, which also means United may hold off and see how he gets on playing against the big boys every week. It’s going to be a huge jump, though Ferdinand must feel he’s ready to make the move.

Let’s see what happens but I hope Rio doesn’t think – if he gets a role at the club – he can abuse it by bringing all sorts of New Era clients to the club like it’s some summer camp.

The best outcome would be to clone Rio Ferdinand, the second coming. Rain on Virgil van Dijk’s parade every day!
