Lukaku scored a double for United, and had Luke Shaw to thank as he finished off United’s first:
“Luke Shaw is our player of the season for me and I’m glad he gave me the pass for the first goal. When players come back from injury they can add to the team, it’s a really strong squad,” Lukaku told the BBC.
“We want to dominate, we want to score goals and we want to keep clean sheets. We had the game under control,” Lukaku added.
The Belgian striker has now scored 10 Premier League goals this campaign, and has equalled ex-United striker Dion Dublin’s tally of 11 Premier League goals, entering the list of top 20 all-time Premier League goalscorers. Lukaku took both goals clinically, putting to bed any doubt over his confidence in front of goal after missing an opportunity early on in the first half.
Goalscorer Ashley Young took responsibility for his part in Crystal Palace’s goal which halved the deficit between the two sides.
“Parts of the game were tough, there was space out there to play and we made it difficult for ourselves. I hold my hands up for their goal, I should have cleared it but I made up for it with a goal,” said Young.
The English fullback also credited United’s squad depth to their victory over a resilient Crystal Palace side.
“We have injuries, they haven’t helped but we have a fantastic squad. Everyone has to be ready and we were today. That’s eight away wins in a row and let’s keep ticking them off.
“We want to keep winning games and keep the confidence coming.”
The win means United remain in fifth position, just one point off fourth placed Arsenal. The Reds will look to continue their unbeaten run against Southampton at Old Trafford this Saturday, before the challenge of Paris Saint Germain awaits next week.
