Manchester United close to clinching transfer of Serie A star as first January signing

Manchester United are reportedly set to sign Roma defender Kostas Manolas as an alternative to Porto youngster Eder Militao.

This is the implication from Spanish outlet Marca, who make a move for Manolas to link up with the Red Devils sound pretty close, though admittedly not much detail is given.

Still, this follows plenty of recent talk involving the Greece international and United, who of course need a quality signing like him at centre-back.

Manolas is one of many names in that position to be linked with the club of late, and is arguably one of the best and most realistic options out there.

As recently noted by the Metro, the 27-year-old is set to become available for just a £32million release clause fee in the summer, meaning a move for not much more than that is surely realistic this month.

Let’s see how this one develops, but players that good don’t come that cheap very often, so it could be that Marca have picked up on some information that has so far been seemingly missed by sources in the English or Italian press.
