Why Anthony Martial has been ruled out of Huddersfield clash

Anthony Martial misses Wednesday’s game against Huddersfield through illness.

It came as a surprise to many when Martial was excluded from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up, but the Frenchman was also missing from the bench.

According to The Metro, the 23-year-old spent Christmas and Paris, who go on to claim he was not at the team hotel last night with teammates.

Solskjaer has since confirmed to MUTV that Martial was ill and could have food poisoning. Perhaps a matter concerning a dodgy Christmas turkey!

‘He (Martial) must have had a bad chef over Christmas, if it’s food poisoning or something I don’t know, but he has fallen ill over Christmas,’ said Solskjaer, as quoted by The Metro.

Martial has been replaced by Juan Mata in the team as a result. Not to worst replacement by any means and United should still be able to play with creativity against The Terriers at Old Trafford.

Hopefully, the United forward will return in time for our clash against Bournemouth.

With Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez still out, Solskjaer can’t really afford more absentees in attacking positions, though the United interim boss has showed he is not afraid to call up some of the youngsters, with Angel Gomes named as a substitute today.

Fred also gets a start in replace of Ander Herrera, with Diogo Dalot starting ahead of Ashley Young.
