Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has named Chelsea legend Didier Drogba as the toughest opponent he faced during his career.
This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone, though we’ve no doubt some butt-hurt Liverpool fans will argue Fernando Torres caused Vidic more problems.

Vidic built a reputation as one of the finest centre-backs during the Premier League era and he along with Rio Ferdinand formed the strongest defensive partnerships United fans have seen.
But when asked who the most difficult opponent he faced was, Vida named Drogba, as well as mentioning Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero.
In an interview with Four Four Two, he said: “People say: ‘You had a difficult game against Torres’, but it was just the one game. I went to head the ball but changed my mind and tried to pass to Edwin [van der Sar]. I misjudged the distance and Torres scored.
“Drogba was tougher. Torres always created a chance to score, but Drogba was on you for the full game.
“Drogba was physically the hardest; [Luis] Suarez and [Sergio] Aguero were the best.”
Valuable insight from one of the greatest defenders we’ve seen. If only there were more defenders like Vidic out there.
Sir Alex Ferguson on Nemanja Vidić: “How many centre-halves can you name who actually like defending? Vidić liked it. He loved the challenge of sticking his head in there.
“You could tell that the thrill of contesting those 50-50 balls animated him.” 👊 pic.twitter.com/WDM2wyun0z

We maintain the defender United should be doing all they can to sign is Inter’s Milan Škriniar. The sort of aggressive defender who would stick is head where most wouldn’t put their foot.
