Italian outfit eye January loan move for Man Utd and Chelsea duo

Serie A outfit Napoli remain on the lookout for full-backs and reports from Italy suggest Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian and Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta are both being considered.

This was brought to our attention by Sport Witness, who cites a report from Il Mattino’s Tuesday edition, claiming it would be a loan deal for either player, meaning the Reds would have to trigger Darmain’s extra year of the contract or he will eventually end up leaving on a free.

Chelsea, on the other hand, don’t need to worry about that as Zappacosta’s deal keeps him at Stamford Bridge until 2021.

The Italian pair were constantly linked with moves away from their clubs throughout the summer. Darmian was closely linked with Serie A champions Juventus, while Zappacosta was targeted by Inter Milan.

Both remained in England, though Darmian wanted out of Old Trafford because he knew chances in the first-team would be few and far in between.

He has barely featured under Mourinho – this season or previous – despite the manager’s efforts to keep him, his attempts purely driven by not having many alternative options in the right-back slot.

And, it is telling if a past it Antonio Valencia is preferred to you by the manager.
