Capello names two Serie A defenders Mourinho told him he wanted Man Utd to sign

Jose Mourinho made it no secret that he wanted to sign a centre-back in the summer, but Manchester United were unsuccessful in fulfilling the manager’s demands.

An array of centre-backs were linked with United as a result and the list of targets handed to vice executive-chairman Ed Woodward included Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar.

The Slovakian international spoke about United’s interest during the summer, but he remained at the San Siro.

Former England manager Fabio Capello has appeared on Sky Italia’s ‘Sky Calcio Live’ and revealed United wanted to sign two defenders before the start of the season, and both of them are playing in Serie A!

“This summer at a meeting of the coaches, I met Mourinho. He was looking for two defenders: one was Skriniar and the other was Koulibaly…” Capello said, as per Calciomercato.

Whatever happens with Mourinho over the coming weeks, hopefully, United stick by their interest in Skriniar. He’s an aggressive centre-back who would be a fantastic addition to our squad.

Mourinho has been watching Skriniar for some time, but it’s the interest in Napoli’s Koulibaly I find more surprising…

While it was reported during the summer, Koulibaly didn’t feature in the headlines as frequently as Toby Alderweireld or Harry Maguire.
