Manchester United are in pole position to land Toby Alderweireld, sources close to Stretty News understand.
That claim is also being backed by the Mirror, who this morning claim that the Tottenham Hotspur star wants to move to Old Trafford and is willing to wait until he can make the move on a free transfer in order to do so.
Spurs are standing firm on the contract situation between player and club, with Daniel Levy hesitant to sell until they find a replacement.

There is a risk, however, that Levy could be playing United along until it’s too late, leaving Jose Mourinho without a new centre-back before the season starts and transfer window shuts.
As a domestic rival, that would make sense while running another risk of leaving Alderweireld unhappy by blocking his preferred move.
Even if Spurs decided to trigger the one-year extension deal in the player’s contract, they would be leaving themselves open to Alderweireld leaving for just £25 million during a two-week period in that summer – something they should want to avoid given their high valuation of the player.
Alderweireld has uploaded videos to social media to show he’s been working on his fitness. He also stated that he would be back in London this week for pre-season preparations after an extended break following Belgium’s World Cup run to the semi-finals this summer.
