Star set to be used as bait with Mourinho tempting proposal for experienced winner

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to go all out for the transfer of Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic this summer.

Mourinho is desperate enough to land the Croatia international that he’s prepared to include Paul Pogba as part of any deal for him.

That’s according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, who also claim Pogba is no longer part of Mourinho’s plans because he hasn’t been at his best since returning to United for a second spell.

Rakitic is possibly more suited to the game Mourinho wants United to play, with the 30-year-old being a far superior (less erratic) passer of the ball from deep positions, also providing a replacement for the retired Michael Carrick.

United have already signed Fred in midfield this summer but could do with another addition due to the likelihood of Marouane Fellaini heading towards the end of his contract.

Serbia international Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been long linked with a move from Lazio to United, but the Daily Star have today reported Barcelona are set to hijack any proposed deal for the midfielder. Could that mean the Catalan giants are preparing for life without Rakitic?

The Croatia international would bring a wealth of experience with him too, having won the Champions League and other major honours during his time at Barcelona.

Mourinho could do with personnel like that around the dressing room.
