The 25-year-old joins United for a fee we believe to be worth £52 million, after seeing his proposed move to rivals Manchester City collapse in January.

Fred was in London last week training with the Brazil squad before traveling up North to take on Croatia in an international friendly at Anfield. It made completing his move to United much easier when the player only had to take a short trip across to Manchester for medicals and paperwork.
In a statement on their website, the club said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos (Fred). A further announcement will be made in due course.”
Fred’s arrival will see Jose Mourinho bolster his side’s midfield following Michael Carrick’s retirement, and Marouane Fellaini’s likely departure means the boss might deep into the market again to improve the Reds’ midfield.
