Manchester United are expected to make additions in midfield over the summer following the retirement of Michael Carrick and the likely departure of Marouane Fellaini.

With the number of midfielders in Jose Mourinho’s squad cut since last year, United have been linked with a number of alternatives to Carrick and Fellaini over the past couple of months.

Carrick may not have featured regularly since Mourinho was made manager in 2016, but it’s positive for United that the boss had added the former England international to his backroom staff.

As for Fellaini, the sooner he leaves the better, with a move to AC Milan seemingly on the cards, as per Sky Sports.

Every day a different name pops up and this time they originate from Spain to suggest we are close to landing Real Madrid midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim that the Reds have won the race for the 22-year-old and that Ruiz is close to joining Mourino’s side in a €30 million deal this summer.

Ruiz is a creative midfielder who chipped in with three goals and recorded six assists in La Liga during the 2017/18 campaign.
