Nicolas Otamendi will not join Real Madrid, says agent

According to Eugenio Lopez, agent of Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi, his client will not be joining Real Madrid this summer.

Otamendi has been touted as a replacement for Sergio Ramos if the Spanish centre back leaves Madrid for United this summer but that is seemingly no longer the case.

The Valencia CF defender will feature for Argentina in the Copa America final on Saturday night when Angel Di Maria, Marcos Rojo and co take on Chile.

Speaking to Cadena Cope, as per ESPN, Lopez says Otamendi is more likely to sign for another club than Real Madrid.

“Before Sergio Ramos leaves Real Madrid — if he does leave — Otamendi will be already playing for another club.”

After a troublesome season at the back for United, Louis van Gaal is in the market for a centre back and possibly a player with the versatility to play in a full back role. Otamendi did that under Diego Maradona at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but it didn’t go to plan.

He’s a centre back. If United are looking to cover two positions (centre back and right back) they ought to be going all out for two players rather than expecting someone to play out of position as seen last season with Antonio Valencia.

Otamendi seems to be an alternative to Ramos for Manchester United.
