De Gea convincing Fabregas to join United

David de Gea has told reporters while away with Spain that he has been doing all he can persuade Cesc Fabregas to join him at Manchester United.

The Barcelona midfielder was a top target for David Moyes last summer but with a range of lackluster bids the club were unable to lure Fabregas away from Catalonia. Recent reports do, however, suggest Louis van Gaal is not interested in such a move.

On the other hand, the Spanish giants would sell Fabregas if they were to make a profit but there is an understanding that the player, aged 27, would prefer not to move away from his home surroundings after going through so much hassle to get a transfer away from Arsenal in 2011.

With the prospect of a big money transfer, United goalkeeper de Gea hopes van Gaal can get a deal done and bring Fabregas to Old Trafford.

De Gea told La Sexta: “I’m trying to convince Cesc that he should come to United. But it’s hard because he is doing well at Barca and it’s his home.”

The reality of it all is that Fabregas is not fully appreciated at Barcelona and has been getting extensive amounts of stick from his own fans. Even the club’s approach to the summer gives the impression that he is not unsellable. Then again, what player is? Messi perhaps, but Barcelona’s stance on Fabregas is different.

Thus far, United have not shown any interest but the La Liga giants would welcome an offer of significance.
