Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a convincing win over Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.
Robin van Persie opened the scoring when the ball dropped at his feet inside the box after 16 minutes. Tom Cleverley got United’s second before half-time with a superbly guided strike, before Wayne Rooney scored a third on the hour. Rooney, however, could have had a hat-trick or more given the amount of chances he had.
Former Manchester United striker Fraizer Cambell scored the only goal for Sunderland after 72 minutes of play.
