Rafael is one of four Manchester United players attending the Olympics this year. In Brazil’s opening fixture against Egypt, the right back got his name on the scoresheet after a smart through-ball from Chelsea’s new signing Oscar.
The Brazilians started the game brilliantly looking dangerous in attack. Oscar set up two goals and Neymar scored another after an excellent run of play. However, it was Rafael that opened the scoring on the 15 minute mark.
Egypt came out stronger in the second half and put two goals past Brazil keeper Murara Neto, who plays for Serie A side Florentina. The goal scorers, Aboutrika and Salah, gave viewers more of a reason to watch in the final 15 minutes but nothing came of it because the game finished 3-2 with the South Americans picking up three points.
Manchester United target Lucas Moura didn’t feature in tonight’s game. He remained on the bench meaning his chances of making an Olympic debut at Old Trafford look ever so likely. Brazil face Belarus at the Theatre of Dreams on July 29.
