Shinji Kagawa scored his first goal for Manchester United and put in a man-of-the-match performance in their 1-0 win over Shanghai Shenhua, who were missing new signing Didier Drogba.
The Japanese midfielder scored from 10 yards out in the 68th minute following a cross from Bebe. The former Borussia Dortmund player, who signed for an estimated fee of £17 million, couldn’t seem to put a foot wrong in his third performance for the club.
“Kagawa was man of the match and I thought he deserved that,” said Ferguson. “He took his goal well even though it was a deflection. Kagawa has settled in really well, he’s going to be a really good player for us and I was really impressed with him tonight.”
However, Ferguson wasn’t the only person to praise Kagawa after the match. Rio Ferdinand had a few words his new team-mate too: “He’s a very intelligent football player who gets into very good positions, and asks questions of his opponents, he’s a very good acquisition for Manchester United.”
