Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he was offered Joe Cole this summer when the England international had enough of Chelsea.
Joe Cole wasn’t only linked with Manchester United but a host of different English teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. He was also linked with a few clubs from Spain until he signed for Liverpool which I reckon was sort of a swap deal with Yossi Benayoun going the other way!
Ferguson said: “We were approached by Joe Cole’s agent at one point, but we didn’t enter into it at all.
“It was complicated to get involved in that.”
I remember last season being at Old Trafford for the defeat against Chelsea which Joe Cole played a key role in scoring the first goal. Tomorrow he’s with a weaker bunch so I wouldn’t expect a performance any where near the one last year but I’m sure Scholes and Fletcher will be ready to soften his cough!
To be honest, Cole is past it. But I was sure he was going to sign for us. He’s back today after his 3-match suspension, I’d say he is more likely to get sent-off again than score !
