Sporting boss admits Bruno Fernandes could leave this summer, amid links to Man Utd

The playmaker’s emotional reaction in front of the Sporting fans has fuelled more transfer speculation and his manager does not deny the likelihood of a summer exit.

Marcel Keizer is not sure whether star midfielder Bruno Fernandes will remain at the club beyond the transfer window, amid strong links to Manchester United.

The saga has dragged on for months with several incorrect reports coming out of Portugal to suggest Fernandes has been air bound, heading towards Manchester, on multiple occasions.

Fernandes has been tipped to join the Red Devils as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to rebuild his squad after a difficult campaign last time out. One area of the side that needs improving is midfield and ensuring that United can create more from the middle as well as offer more protection at the back. The Portuguese international would be expected to bring more goals to the side.

Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have already signed for the club this summer, but it’s nowhere near enough if United want to really improve on last season.

The midfielder’s teary reaction at the end of Sunday’s 2-1 friendly defeat at the hands of Valencia also seemingly dropped a huge hint about his future, as if he was saying goodbye to the Sporting faithful.

Asked about Fernandes, Keizer admitted he was unsure about his future.

“We’ll see if we can keep our players and then we’ll see what we do,” he told reporters after the game, as per

“I hope he [Fernandes] stays, of course, like everyone else at Sporting, but we don’t know.”
