Manchester United have reportedly triggered a clause in Paul Pogba’s contract which will see his current deal extended until June 2022.
Pogba, 27, rejoined United in 2016 from Juventus, the team he departed the Reds’ youth academy for four years prior. The Frenchman’s second Old Trafford coming cost the United hierarchy an eye-watering £94.5m, as per TransferMarkt.
During the last four years at the club he first joined all the way back in 2009, Pogba has gone on to feature in 168 matches in all competitions and be directly involved in 66 goals.
Despite a largely impressive spell back at United, the World Cup winning midfielder’s long-term future has always been clouded in doubt with the latest cause for speculation coming from the man himself.
Speaking whilst away on international duty with France, Pogba spoke of his dreams to play for La Liga giants Real Madrid, as per Sky Sports.
However, in light of Pogba’s admission of admiration for Real Madrid, according to Manchester Evening News, the 27-year-old’s current club have now taken up the option to extend his contract by a further year, a clause they originally inserted when he resigned from Juventus.
Speaking in a weekly press conference earlier today, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Paul’s our player. He’s going to be here for another two years and I’m sure Paul is focused on doing his best for us and we want to see the best of Paul.
“I’m sure in the next couple of years we’ll get the best out of him.”
