United Weigh £77m Igor Thiago Move After Højlund Exit

Manchester United are monitoring Brentford striker Igor Thiago as they consider Premier League-experienced attacking options for Michael Carrick’s side.

According to The Week, United’s interest in the 24-year-old remains at the monitoring stage. The Brazilian finished the Premier League season as its second-highest goalscorer with 22 strikes, behind Erling Haaland, and is part of Brazil’s FIFA World Cup 2026 squad.

United are considering Thiago as a potential partner for Benjamin Šeško following Rasmus Højlund’s permanent move to Napoli and with Joshua Zirkzee expected to be sold. Thiago could provide cover for Šeško and work alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as United return to European competition.

Brentford’s stance and United’s rebuild

Brentford are not expected to be keen to sell their in-form striker. However, having narrowly missed out on European football, Thiago could be tempted by the prospect of joining one of the league’s leading clubs.

Thiago is under contract with Brentford until 2031, and reports suggest the Bees could seek around £77 million for him.

United’s pursuit remains in its early stages. The club are focused on rebuilding with young players and have a preference for Premier League experience, making Thiago a candidate if they can offload the players they want to sell.

Arsenal competition

United are not the only club linked with Thiago. Arsenal are also considering the Brazilian as a potential partner for Viktor Gyökeres, with the Gunners seeking additional attacking options alongside Gyökeres and Leandro Trossard.

If United are able to complete their planned departures, Thiago could become part of Carrick’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
