Michael Carrick confirmed Mason Mount is back training with the Manchester United group ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game against Ipswich at Old Trafford, while Diallo remains unavailable and Carlos Baleba is set to miss a few weeks with an ankle issue.
Carrick spoke to the media before United’s first home game of the season, which kicks off at 16:30 BST on Sunday. The head coach provided an update on the squad’s availability and discussed several younger players.
Baleba sidelined by ankle issue
Carrick said Baleba has a little ankle issue that will rule him out for a few weeks. He described it as no major issue.
Both Baleba and Amad could be available before next month’s international break, although Carrick did not put a deadline on either player’s return.
Looking ahead to Ipswich, Carrick said United are looking forward to their first home game of the season and the arrival of the supporters. He also said the team want to get back to playing well and winning matches after last week’s setback. Ipswich, he noted, are coming into the game after a big result of their own.
Mount back with the group
Mount has returned to training with the group, while Diallo is still unavailable for selection.
Carrick also spoke highly of Baleba, describing United as delighted with the new signing. He said the midfielder has significant potential and that his quality and attributes help offset the balance of the group.
Academy players gaining experience
On JJ Gabriel, Carrick said the teenager has trained with the first-team group quite a bit and is gaining experience. He added that Gabriel is physically adapting to each step in his development while continuing to progress.
On Harry Amass, Carrick said he had been really pleased with the player. He noted that Amass had a good season that ended poorly because of injury, but said it had been good to have him around during pre-season and that he had performed well. Carrick said United will see what happens next.
