Why United and Casemiro decided to call it quits this year

Casemiro’s terms did actually contain a 12-month option that would’ve seen him stay until the end of 2026/2027, but both he and the club were of the belief that this summer was the right time to part ways.

Although he has done a stellar job in the middle of the park this campaign, his performances haven’t justified his exorbitant £350,000-a-week wages, which INEOS were keen to get off the books as swiftly as possible.

There is an acceptance, though, that replacing the five-time Champions League winner will likely take more than one signing in order for his absence not to be felt next season, especially with UCL football added to an already jam-packed schedule.
