He has been identified by Wilcox as a suitable replacement for compatriot Casemiro, who is now preparing for his final five games as a United player.

INEOS might feel more obliged to act on their long-standing interest in Ederson due to the fact that he has agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid.

Indeed, the 26-year-old has given his full approval on a move to the Wanda Metropolitano, but the prospective transfer has recently hit a standstill, with Atleti unwilling to meet Atalanta’s price demands.

As a result, it could well pave the way for another suitor to swoop in and hash out a full deal while the Spaniards are mulling it over.

The club plan to bring in at least two to bolster the position, especially considering Manuel Ugarte is set to be sold after only two seasons, too.
