Manchester United duo Mason Mount and Amad Diallo have both lost their starting roles, sparking speculation regarding their future at the club.

The two players were regular starters under Ruben Amorim. The Ivorian was moved back to the right wing-back role to accomodate Bryan Mbeumo, while the Englishman mostly acted as an attacking midfielder leaning towards the left flank.

The former Chelsea man took advantage of Bruno Fernandes’ move to a deeper role in the middle of the park under the Portuguese tactician. Nevertheless, Mount also did his part, making a strong impression on Amorim, who identified him as a player he ‘loves’.

Amad & Mount risk bench roles under Michael Carrick

With Amorim now gone and Michael Carrick filling in, the landscape at United has drastically changed, with the new boss restoring the 4-2-3-1 formation that has been the club’s most common system over the past decade or so.

This tactical switch had major implications for several players, but Mount was perhaps the biggest victim. The 27-year-old has been out with an injury, so it remains to be seen how he’ll fit within Carrick’s plans, but most observers believe he’ll be considered a backup for Fernandes, who returned to operate in the No.10 role.

In other words, Mount could suffer the fate that Kobbie Mainoo had endured during the first half of the season.

On the other hand, Amad started the first five matches under Carrick, but he was relegated to the bench in the last two contests against Crystal Palace and Newcastle United, paying the price for Benjamin Sesko’s red-hot scoring run.

Amad Diallo & Mason Mount keen to stay at Man Utd

According to FootyInsider journalist Pete O’Rourke, neither Amad nor Mount intends to leave Man Utd, despite their current situations.

Both men are happy to stay at Carrington and fight for their place in the team. After all, Carrick hasn’t isolated any player since his arrival, showing a willingness to grant fair chances for everyone at the club.

Stats in 25/26 Appearances Goals Assists
Amad Diallo 24 2 3
Mason Mount 19 3 1

Moreover, the 44-year-old’s preeminence is still hanging in the air. Despite his spectacular start, he’s still considered an interim head coach, as INEOS aren’t planning on making a final decision on the matter before the final stages of the season.

  1. More rubbish spouted by the media one minute they’re saying we need a bigger squad and a better subs bench if we get back into Europe then saying players will leave because they are rotated to get the best results in games

  2. Truly you need to bring the likes of Alvarez of Athletico Madrid,Cole Palmer and Rashford and Sancho and Mctominay. And never let anyone go even Casemiro if you don’t want to be shy in the process.I actually beg you to not let anyone go and you build that team around those guys there.Thank you too much also 🤞👐👏🙏✌️❤️👍

  3. Manchester United is a big club incase we qualify for champions league you can’t rely on the first leven only in all those leagues backup should be so that everyone is given a chance to play in a specific league according to his potential. The likes of Radford and Sancho should be given a chance to rejoin the club and more addition to midfield like Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson to strengthen midfield but not letting players leave the club.
