Despite wins against both Aston Villa and Real Madrid filling Liverpool fans with optimism that they had turned a corner, they fell back into losing ways on Sunday afternoon.

Indeed, the reigning Premier League winners slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City away from home.

It marked Liverpool’s fifth league defeat of the term, with Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United and Brentford all also able to overturn Arne Slot’s men as they navigate their title defence.

From the Old Trafford faithful’s perspective, they’ll be hoping it’s a sign of the tide changing based on the fact that United entered the international break above their arch-rivals in the table.

United do, of course, have one fewer competition to account for, given they didn’t qualify for Europe last term, but to boast an unbeaten streak of five games (three wins and two draws) heading into the festive period is an impressive feat nonetheless.

When club action resumes in just under two weeks’ time, United host Everton in M16 on Monday, November 24 before travelling to face FA Cup champions Crystal Palace (November 30) and then relegation candidates West Ham (December 4).

As for the Merseyside strugglers, they lock horns with Nottingham Forest before facing a run of  West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds United. Should you wish to witness their woes up close and personal, be sure to check out how to buy Liverpool tickets.

Slot will undoubtedly have ample time in his favour, given he returned a league triumph at the first time of asking, but questions will continue to be asked over his methods and suitability in the dugout.

He was backed extortionately in the market over the summer, which saw Liverpool shell out a record-breaking £446 million to grant him his desired signings, including big names such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

The former has struggled with injury woes since swapping Newcastle United for Liverpool, while the latter has been simply unable to reach the level required of him and is still adjusting to the English top flight; he has yet to return a goal or assist in his first 11 appearances.

Meanwhile, United’s big-money signing, Bryan Mbeumo, has hit the ground running, scoring four goals and registering one assist in his first 11 outings, picking up exactly where he left off in Brentford.
