Gary Neville has issued an early verdict on Benjamin Sesko’s Manchester United tenure, claiming the summer signing looks ‘well off it’.

It’s times like this where it’d be worth remembering that it took Rasmus Hojlund 15 Premier League appearances and 1026 minutes to open his account in the top flight, whereas it took Sesko only six.

Of course, fans are expecting much more from the Slovenian, especially considering United agreed to pay £73.7 million to bring him to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig back in August.

Still, for the most part, he has shown hugely promising signs of what’s to come.

Neville is not of the same belief, however.

After Sesko endured a quiet and difficult 90-minute shift up against Nottingham Forest’s towering centre-halves, he came under fire for his lack of impact in what would eventually end a 2-2 draw at the City Ground.

During Saturday afternoon’s affair, the 22-year-old did not register a shot on target and had only 21 touches of the ball and just two touches in the opposition’s box (Fotmob).

Such a showing prompted Neville to express his early concerns over Sesko’s transition to the side thus far in comparison to fellow summer arrivals Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, both of whom are four years his senior.

Mbeumo has already netted four goals and contributed one assist, while Cunha has only scored once, but has overseen consistent high-quality performances.

Bryan Mbeumo 4 1
Matheus Cunha 1 0

“I’m no further forward with him,” Neville told NBC Sports of Sesko. “The jury is out. He’s well off it compared to the other summer signings Manchester United made up front, like Cunha and Mbeumo.

“He looks awkward. He had a couple of good opportunities against Forest, but his touch wasn’t quite right. For £80 million, you can say he’s young and settling in, but you still want to see a bit more.”
