Chelsea’s frantic attempts to get a deal over the line for Jamie Gittens before they kick-started their Club World Cup campaign have failed.

Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg confirmed just before the first phase of the window came to an end at 8pm last night that the move had collapsed, adding ‘the deal is off’ after receiving confirmation from Borussia Dortmund that their starlet would be staying for the time being.

In turn, Chelsea could look to do business for another target whose club are fully open to selling in the form of Alejandro Garnacho.

Chelsea to re-consider Alejandro Garnacho swoop

It’s been widely reported heading into the summer that the Stamford Bridge outfit retain their interest in Garnacho following their brief approach in January. They, unlike Napoli, opted against making a bid mid-season, but it was claimed shortly after the winter window closed that Chelsea were confident they’d ‘laid the groundwork’ for a future coup.

They have been prioritising Gittens thus far, but will be well aware of the Argentine’s precarious situation at United, which has seen all parties come to the conclusion that his sale is the most suitable outcome in the coming months.

The 20-year-old’s bombshell post-Europa League final interview, during which he labelled his side’s campaign as ‘sh*t’, rued Ruben Amorim’s decision to bench him for the tie, and hinted a move away, resulted in him being omitted from the matchday squad for United’s last match of 2024/2025 at home to Aston Villa.

United make final decision on Garnacho’s future

In the subsequent days, it was revealed that Amorim had told Garnacho in training to ‘pray’ he could find another club to take him on board and, as such, set in stone that the academy graduate’s Red Devils tenure would be coming to an end after five years.

Along with Chelsea, he has garnered interest from Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid and Napoli again, whilst Argentine reporter Gaston Edul has claimed Arsenal are also keeping tabs on his situation from afar.

  1. Swap deal Napoli garnacho out osi in
    Mbuemo in
Or Nico Williams if u can convince him
Martiniz gk of Aston if u want qick solu. with gr8 skills
I would like as a cb van de of Tottenham but it will never happen but u can get 1 the best of the championship

  2. If Chelsea would not pay £55, million for Gittens, then there is no point them contacting United as the Price for Garnacho starts at £60,million

  3. I would prefer Osimhen to Gyokeres, as Osimhen has proven himself in three different leagues as a goal machine, United should swap Garnacho for Osimhen, as that is the easiest way to get him.

  4. If manchester united are really serious in the service of osimhen , why not use Garnacho as a swap deal to get osimhen, when you can’t paid the price for his signature, osimhen is a very good and dangerous player on the field, the only problem is that Jim Radcliffe and manchester United’s boards don’t want to sign a black african player, they did it to ighalo, former nigeria forward, who’s now playing outside Europe.
