Not only Amad – Another two Man United must adjust to new roles after double coup

At least three Manchester United players will have to switch roles if the club ends up signing Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils saw their opening bid for the Cameroonian winger turned down, but Fabrizio Romano expects Brentford to eventually accept an offer in the region of £60-65 million.

The 25-year-old would be United’s second summer acquisition after Matheus Cunha who joined from Wolves on a deal worth £62.5 million.

Nevertheless, this shouldn’t signal the end of Man United’s major attacking overhaul, as INEOS will attempt to sign a new centre-forward to replace Inter Milan-bound Rasmus Hojlund, while the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho are all expected to make way after falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim.

And yet, even some of those who are destined to stay at the club will be directly affected by the arrivals of Cunha and (potentially) Mbeumo.

Manchester Evening News identifies three players who are set for new playing roles, beginning with the most obvious one: Amad Diallo.

The Ivorian excelled as a right attacking midfielder in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, often drifting to the flank before cutting to the middle and shooting with his strong left foot.

However, this particular role will likely be occupied by Mbeumo,  so the 22-year-old might have to settle for a deeper position, namely a right wingback. Amad will share this role with Diogo Dalot, albeit they have little in common in terms of characteristics.

Mazraoui & Bruno Fernandes will also be confirmed in deeper roles

With two players vying for the right wingback slot, Noussair Mazraoui is unlikely to feature in this position. Hence, the Morocco international will likely be deployed as a right-centre-back.

This would be a convenient change for Amorim who previously admitted that he prefers to field the former Ajax man in this deeper role.

Finally, with Cunha and Mbeumo expected to play behind the striker, Bruno Fernandes’ switch to the double-pivot could be permanent.

The Man Utd captain is originally an attacking midfielder, but he certainly didn’t look out of sorts when playing as a central midfielder under Amorim this season.
