Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United veteran Casemiro is expected to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti in the Brazilian national team.
The 33-year-old last played for the Selecao in October 2023, captaining the side in a 0-2 defeat to Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers.
Brazil’s poor form, coupled with the midfielder’s struggles in England at the time, saw him dropped from the selections, as former managers Fernando Diniz and Dorival Junior opted for younger profiles in the middle of the park.
But after months of speculation, the Brazilian national team announced the appointment of Ancelotti as head coach.
Ancelotti wants reunion with Man Utd star
The 65-year-old is arguably the most decorated manager in his generation, and is now set to leave Real Madrid after a disappointing campaign to try to lead the five-time World Champions towards a sixth triumph in 2026.
According to Romano, Ancelotti’s first order of business is to bring his old pupil Casemiro back to the national team. The Italian manager has already made concrete steps on this front.
“Carlo Ancelotti has already made initial plans to discuss Casemiro’s return as part of Brazil squad,” posted the Italian journalist on his X account.
“The relationship has always been excellent and Carlo wants more leaders to be part of the squad, including Man United’s midfielder.”
Casemiro & Ancelotto go way back
Casemiro first joined Real Madrid in 2013 when Ancelotti was in his first reign at the Santiago Bernabeu. The two men were reunited when the manager made his return for a second tenure in 2021.
Their collaboration ended in the summer of 2022, when the Brazilian midfielder was sold to Man Utd on a deal worth £70 million.
Although the midfielder has had his struggles, he is currently enjoying what is arguably his best run at Old Trafford, putting up ‘colossal’ displays.
Hence, Ruben Amorim admitted it is difficult to drop Casemiro from his starting lineup at the moment, and Ancelotti apparently agrees.
