West Ham United cruised their way to a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon to claim their first win in eight matches.
Indeed, the Irons had not taken all three points from a Premier League outing since February 27 – until they rocked up to face the 20-time champions on their home turf.
Manchester United finished gameweek 36 in 16th place, with West Ham able to move to 15th after dealing Ruben Amorim’s side their 17th loss of the campaign; 13th since his tenure began in November 2024.
How United fell short vs Irons
The opener came courtesy of Tomas Soucek getting onto the end of a low cross into the area, while the second made for particularly infuriating viewing for Amorim and the United faithful.
Manuel Ugarte was eased off the ball by Aaron Wan-Bissaka, falling to his knees after being lightly nudged by the former Red. Keen for the referee to award a free-kick, he initially stayed down in hopes of hearing the whistle before eventually getting to his feet, just in time to watch Wan-Bissaka play in Jarrod Bowen to make it 2-0.
The Telegraph’s James Ducker classified the midfielder’s inexcusable display as a ‘pitiful sight’. You’d struggle to find many supporters who’d dispute the sentiment.

Ugarte’s display left much to be desired
Ugarte lasted an hour before being hooked and replaced by Patrick Dorgu. He recorded a measly Sofascore rating of 6.4, having lost possession six times and committed an error leading to a shot.
He has only just turned 24 years old last month, so there will be hopes among INEOS chiefs that he can adapt more to England’s top flight ready for next season, though whether that’ll turn out to be the case for the £50.5 million acquisition remains to be seen.
It’s decision time this summer. We can’t hold on to players who are not giving their all for the badge, and just hope they will improve. We will end up the same as this season if we do this. Best to get rid of these players and bring in, or promote players who will give everything week in week out.
I just can’t understand how professional player’s can’t play any system a manager wants to play.
I remember players in Fergies time saying they would play in goal if they were asked. This should be the attitude of ALL Man.Utd. players.
